Strategic Communication Certificate (Graduate)

The mission of the Media + Design program is to provide students with the research and problem-solving skills necessary to create strategic, innovative, and culturally and socially significant communication solutions. Students will understand how communication can create change through design, public relations, and digital media marketing.

Analyze and apply the principles of the public relations process, including research, planning, implementation and evaluation, to develop strategies that address communication challenges and opportunities for an organization.

Outline and construct digital marketing strategies that address common organizational marketing challenges — integrating research, planning, execution and assessment techniques.

Classify and develop media content tailored to diverse communication challenges, audiences, and channels utilizing strategies for paid, earned, owned and shared media.

Utilize the fundamentals of graphic design, including color theory, file types, design terminology and workflow to create basic design solutions based on these principles.
This flexible 12-credit (four-course) online graduate certificate is ideal for graduates and professionals looking to advance their knowledge, skills, and applied understanding of public relations, digital marketing, and graphic design. Across four foundational courses, students will learn how to research, plan, implement, and evaluate PR and digital marketing campaigns.
All four courses are foundational and require no specialized prior knowledge or coursework. Courses are offered every semester, and students can take them in any sequence. While it’s possible to earn a graduate certificate in as little as one academic year, the schedule is flexible, so students can tailor their pace to fit their personal and professional needs.
The Graduate Certificate in Strategic Communication will equip students with content-rich, highly competitive skills that are necessary for excelling in the integrated marketing communication industries. Students may enroll in this certificate program without being concurrently enrolled in a corresponding degree program.
