The 18-credit Minor in Small Business Development allows undergraduate students to complement their current majors with knowledge that will enhance their chosen careers.  The minor provides the analytical skills, business fundamentals, practical knowledge, and legal and ethical foundations necessary to develop a business plan, create marketing strategies, identify capital resources, and manage a small business or other entrepreneurial venture.

The Minor in Small Business Development provides adult learners with the analytical skills and practical knowledge to develop business plans, create marketing strategies, identify capital resources, and manage a small business or other entrepreneurial venture.

Small Business Development Minor Learning Objectives

On completion of the Small Business Development Minor curriculum, graduates will have the knowledge and skills to:

1. Identify and apply the moral and ethical principles, social responsibilities, and laws that govern business entities, transactions, and managerial decisions. 

2. Identify the primary functions of management, the primary types of managers and their respective roles; and the advantages that arise from managing people effectively.

3. Master basic accounting concepts and procedures, as governed by Generally Applicable Accounting Principles.

4. Master effective oral and written business communications, including the use of proper grammar and syntax, evaluation of audience and purpose, identification of appropriate channels, and implementation of effective listening techniques.

5. Analyze and apply fundamental marketing concepts, including theories and principles of marketing policy; market and consumer behavior; products, distribution, promotion, and pricing decisions.
