Designed to prepare students for successful careers in biomedical sciences, Tulane School of Medicine's department of Microbiology & Immunology offers an immersive, one-year specialized post-baccalaureate program that culminates in a Master of Science in Microbiology & Immunology. Standing out not only by enhancing academic credentials for postgraduate professional school admissions, our program provides an unmatched educational experience through integrative lab-based learning, lectures from our dedicated faculty, and a maximum class size of just 20 students per year. 

This program is ideal for students hoping to gain admission to postgraduate professional programs such as medical, dental, veterinary, or physician assistant schools or for those who wish to pursue doctoral studies (Ph.D.). In addition to the aforementioned career tracks, alumni from our program have also gone on to have careers in bio-innovation, clinical research, industry, and education.

Learning Outcomes:

  • Students will integrate core concepts of microbiology and immunology with interdisciplinary frameworks, applying foundational and emerging knowledge to address complex problems across scientific and applied domains. (Disciplinary and interdisciplinary knowledge)
  • Students will demonstrate foundational proficiency in microbiological, immunological, and research-based laboratory techniques.
