Applied Business Studies, Minor

The 18-credit Minor in Applied Business Studies allows undergraduate students to complement their current majors with the analytical skills and practical knowledge necessary to operate businesses successfully and in compliance with the legal and ethical constructs that govern all commercial relationships.
Applied Business Studies Minor Mission Statement
The Minor in Applied Business Studies prepares adult learners to manage the relationships and transactions of business entities successfully, based on practical knowledge of applicable accounting, managerial, ethical, and human resource practices and oral and written communication skills.
Applied Business Studies Minor Learning Objectives
On completion of the Applied Business Studies Minor curriculum, graduates will have the knowledge and skills to:
1. Identify and apply the moral and ethical principles, social responsibilities, and laws that govern business entities, transactions, and managerial decisions.
2. Identify the primary functions of management, the primary types of managers and their respective roles; the primary functions of management; and the advantages that arise from managing people effectively.
3. Master basic accounting concepts and procedures, as governed by Generally Applicable Accounting Principles.
4. Master effective oral and written business communications, including the use of proper grammar and syntax, evaluation of audience and purpose, identification of appropriate channels, and implementation of effective listening techniques.
5. Analyze and apply fundamental marketing concepts in light of consumer behavior, product distribution, promotion, and pricing decisions.
6. Identify and describe the fundamental concepts and tools of finance and financial management.
7. Identify the primary methods of effective human resources management in business organizations under applicable law.
8. Demonstrate knowledge about the fundamental areas of a business organization, including accounting, finance, marketing, and human resources.
