The Master of Sustainable Real Estate Development (MSRED) at Tulane University is an interdisciplinary online graduate program with in-person field experiences that prepares students to become leaders in shaping the built environment through a practice-oriented curriculum that blends real estate finance, economics, sustainable design, urbanism, law, policy, and artificial intelligence. Designed for both full-time students and working professionals, the program offers flexible pathways including accelerated one-year, part-time, dual-degree, and advanced standing options with courses available in hybrid, online, and in-person formats. Graduates gain applied skills, real-world experience, and a professional network that equips them to finance, design, and develop projects that create lasting value for communities while addressing climate change, resilience, and sustainable urban growth.

Advanced Standing

At the Tulane University School of Architecture and Built Environment, we understand that each student’s path to pursuing an MSRED is unique. We therefore offer an Advanced Standing option for applicants who have had previous education or experience in real estate. The Advanced Standing will constitute an opportunity to accelerate a student’s progress toward the MSRED degree. Applicants with prior learning experiences, and demonstrable real estate skills, can be evaluated and potentially reduce required courses in MSRED degree path at Tulane.

Upon application to the MSRED program, students may request an advanced standing evaluation of their academic record, and previous course syllabi for admission with Advanced Standing. Qualified previous learning experiences may satisfy corresponding degree requirements in the MSRED program. Such evaluations are conducted by a qualified faculty admissions committee, who carefully assess each instance of previous experience and correlate their findings to our degree requirements. If the committee determines that a student has indeed met these requirements, they will be granted advanced standing toward specific courses.

It is important to note that a minimum of 50% of the required degree credits must be taken in residence at Tulane to comply with the university’s residency requirement policy.

This equates to completing at least 18 credits of the MSRED’s proposed 36 required credit hours in residence, ensuring that while students can benefit from their prior experiences, they still engage meaningfully with the curriculum of the MSRED program.
