The Teaching English Learners (TEL) Endorsement provides in-service and pre-service teachers with the content and skills needed to become qualified to teach English as a second language (ESL) in the state of Louisiana. The TEL Add-On Endorsement consists of four courses that develop pedagogical mindsets, skills, and practices of future ESL professionals in the areas of linguistics, intercultural communication, methods for teaching ESL, and curriculum/materials design. In-service teachers, already licensed in the state of Louisiana, who successfully complete the four courses will be eligible to apply for Louisiana’s ESL Add-On Certification. Pre-service teachers who successfully complete the four courses while pursuing their initial licensure will be eligible to apply for their initial teaching license and the ESL Add-On Certification concurrently.
