The post-professional Master of Science in Architectural Research and Design is the most advanced degree at the Tulane School of Architecture and Built Environment. Design research builds on the expertise of our faculty and the university as a whole. It is intended for individuals with an accredited professional architecture degree interested in teaching and research as a career in the field of architecture.

The program provides opportunities to form a course of study around students’ interests and to develop appropriate strategies within the Research and Design Thesis framework.
The M.S.Arc in Architectural Research and Design requires a minimum of 30 credit hours and a cumulative grade point average of 3.000. Students must take 21 credits of studio research, architectural research methods, and thesis research coursework and 9 credits of architecture elective coursework to complete the degree. Students in this program complete summer directed reading and a fellowship experiences prior to matriculation and after coursework completion.* Details about program requirements can be found in the table below.
This is an example of plan of study for the M.S.Arc in Architectural Research and Design encompassing all requirements for the program. Students are responsible for reviewing university, school, and program requirements, along with prerequisites and the sequencing of courses in coordination with their program advisor.
During the summer prior to matriculation, students in this program complete Directed Reading in consultation with their program advisor. In the summer after coursework completion, students complete a Teaching and Research Fellowship.
