Newcomb-Tulane College Core Curriculum Course Lists

The Newcomb-Tulane College Core Curriculum is the foundational academic experience for all Newcomb-Tulane College students. With a commitment to academic breadth and depth, the core helps students cultivate a spirit of intellectual inquiry, hone their critical thinking and communication skills, and become informed, engaged, and conscientious global citizens.

The core curriculum—which is composed of a minimum of 30 credits—is divided into three parts: proficiency requirementsdistribution of knowledge requirements, and additional requirementsA course approved for both a proficiency and a distribution core requirement can only satisfy one (not both) of those requirements. To ensure that students experience the breadth of knowledge at the collegiate level, AP, IB, and Cambridge A-Level courses can be used to satisfy proficiency requirements only in Formal Reasoning and Foreign Language.

Because course offerings vary by term, students should review the Schedule of Classes each semester to confirm available core requirements and consult their academic advisor for guidance.
