Creative Writing Minor

The Creative Writing Minor allows students to develop and establish their personal practice as writers of fiction, poetry, and creative non-fiction through a sequence of literary analysis as well as introductory and advanced creative-writing workshops and seminars. The curriculum enables students to study multiple genres or focus on one; to work independently and in group settings; and to earn service-learning credit through community internships. The Creative-Writing Minor is envisioned for non-English majors. English majors who are interested in specializing in Creative Writing may pursue the Creative-Writing Concentration within the English major or a minor in Creative Writing, with an understanding that ENLS 2000 (Literary Investigations) is the only class that can overlap between the English major and the Creative Writing minor.
The English department's Creative Writing Minor requires 5 classes total: ENLS 2000 Literary Investigations (3 c.h.), ENLS 3610 Introduction to Creative Writing (3 c.h.), and 3 Advanced Creative-Writing Workshops at the 4000 level or above. The Advanced Creative-Writing Workshops at the 4000 level may be repeated for credit.
