SPAN 4200 The Historical Novel of Latin America

Study of recent works by Latin Americas premier novelists that considers how these writers articulate modern cultural identities by narrative the lives of iconic figures of the colonial past. Contemporary essays and selections from colonial texts are also discussed. Authors include Arenas, Carpentier, Fuentes, Garca Mrquez, Lobo, Posse, Vargas Llosa. Does not fulfill colonial-nineteenth century Latin American requirement.
