PHYS 327 Biophysics of the Living Cell

This course explores the fundamental physics of several important processes in living systems at the cellular level. The emphasis throughout will be on how physical theory can be used to achieve a deeper level of understanding of biological processes. Topics covered include the relevant aspects of equilibrium and nonequilibrium statistical mechanics, diffusion, cellular electrochemistry and transport, energy transduction, protein pumps, motor proteins, enzyme biophysics and kinetics, and the composition and behavior of neurons.
