ITAL 444 Topics in Italian Literature and Cinema in Translation

Subject varies with instructor. An advanced study of the major contributions of Italian literature to Western thought. The course emphasizes particularly those authors whose works have interdisciplinary ramifications, e.g. Dante, Petrarch, Machiavelli, Galileo, Pirandello, Calvino. The course may also focus on the history of Italian cinema or a special topic in Italian cinema, such as the silent era, neorealism, the work of a major director, and the relationship between literature and film.
