COMM 361 Alternative Journalism

This course balances the practical development of literary journalistic skills with academic inquiry into the theorizing and development of journalism that conceptualized itself as an alternative to mainstream news content, media and practices. It will also examine the changing meaning of the word alternative in relation to journalistic genres, such as non-fiction stories, underground writings, ethnic presses and community media.

notes: This class can be taken as a service learning course for an optional 4th credit.
