AHST 330 Islamic Architecture

The seminar examines architecture and urbanism in Muslim lands, emphasizing the 7th to the 16th centuries. Selected building typesthe mosque, the palace, the tomb, and the gardenwill be analyzed in detail in the context of regional traditions in, for example, Iran, Turkey, Spain, and India. The course also will investigate issues in the relationship between architecture and ornament, and between tradition and modernity.
